The United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly for a resolution backing a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.
The measure recognized an independent Palestinian state and condemned the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on southern Israel.
It also denounced Israel’s blockade and starvation in Gaza, calling the crisis a humanitarian disaster.
Broad Support Across Member States
Out of 193 UN members, 142 supported the New York Declaration, 10 opposed, and 12 abstained.
France and Saudi Arabia presented the resolution, envisioning the Palestinian Authority taking control of all Palestinian territory.
The plan called for a transitional governing committee after a ceasefire in Gaza.
Conditions for Peace and Security
The declaration demanded Hamas relinquish weapons, end control in Gaza, and release all hostages.
It proposed deploying a UN-backed mission to safeguard civilians and guarantee protection for both Israelis and Palestinians.
The resolution also outlined UN support for transferring governance to the Palestinian Authority and monitoring both ceasefire and peace process.
