Welsh rugby winger Steff Evans has officially announced that he will be leaving the Scarlets at the end of the season. The 30-year-old, who made a strong return from a serious Achilles injury earlier this year, is bringing an end to a remarkable 11-year journey with the club.

Evans, known for his lightning speed and sharp instincts on the wing, made his Scarlets debut in November 2014 against Zebre. Since then, he has become a fan favorite, racking up an impressive 74 tries in 190 appearances. That record makes him the joint highest Welsh try-scorer in the history of the United Rugby Championship (URC).

His time at Scarlets has been filled with highs, including playing a key role in the team’s stunning Pro12 title win during the 2016–17 season. That year, his excellent form earned him a spot in the national squad for Wales’ summer tour. He went on to earn 13 caps for Wales, showcasing his talent on the international stage.

In a heartfelt statement posted on the club’s website, Evans expressed his gratitude and reflected on some of his best memories.

“There have been some incredible memories,” Evans wrote. “Winning that final in Dublin was a huge moment. The rugby we played leading up to that game was something special. Reaching the semi-finals in Europe was also a highlight for me.”

Evans also spoke about his early days, including the experience of going up against rugby legends. “I remember going to Connacht early in my career and playing against Mils Muliaina, an All Blacks legend. That was a big moment for me as a young player.”

He credited many of his teammates for helping him grow as a player. “That title-winning side was full of stars. Johnny McNicholl helped me develop a lot, and players like Foxy, Scott, Gar, and Tadhg Beirne made us a great team. Look where Tadhg is now—one of the best forwards in the world.”

One game that stood out for Evans was the 2017 match against the Ospreys. “That one was special,” he said. “We had a big crowd, and we put on a big performance. It was just before our semi-final against Leinster. Every game here was a joy, but that one meant a lot.”

Tributes from the Club

Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel praised Evans for his loyalty and impact.

“Steff has been a big part of this club for a long time,” said Peel. “He’s a local boy who came through the age-grade pathway to become a great Scarlet. His ranking as one of the leading try-scorers in the league says it all.”

Peel highlighted Evans’ role in inspiring younger players and lifting the team in key moments. “He’s delivered some unforgettable tries and has been a role model for the young guys coming through. Not many players get to 190 games in the professional era. That shows how much he gave to the club.”

He added, “We all wish Steff and his family the very best. I know the fans will give him the send-off he deserves on Saturday.”

Legacy and What’s Next

Evans’ departure will leave a big gap in the Scarlets’ squad, but his legacy is firmly set. He helped lead the club through one of its most successful periods in modern history. His try-scoring record and his presence in big games made him one of the most exciting players to watch.

Though Evans hasn’t yet revealed his next steps, fans are eager to see what the future holds for him. Whether he decides to continue playing elsewhere or take on a new role in rugby, his experience and passion for the game will surely benefit the sport.

Reaction from Fans and Community

News of Evans’ departure has sparked emotional messages from supporters on social media. Many thanked him for his service, shared photos, and recalled favorite moments. A tribute is expected during the final home game, where fans will have a chance to say goodbye.

Steff Evans leaves Scarlets as a true club legend. His journey from a young hopeful to one of the top try-scorers in URC history is a story of hard work, resilience, and love for the game. As he takes the next step in his career, he carries with him the respect and admiration of teammates, coaches, and fans.
