High school sports across Washington saw an action-packed Tuesday filled with exciting games and tournaments. Baseball, girls tennis, and boys golf took center stage as students competed for wins and playoff advancement.
The day started early at McKenzie Stadium, where the 4A and 3A district baseball championships began at noon. Fans gathered to watch top teams face off in high-stakes matchups. As the day moved on, more games took place across different fields, each filled with tension and energy. One key game was the 4A bi-district loser-out match between Battle Ground and Curtis. This game started at 4 p.m., with both teams knowing that the loser would be out of the tournament. The competition was intense, and every pitch mattered. At 5 p.m., another big game took place. Central Kitsap faced Prairie in the 3A bi-district round. Both teams played with focus and drive, each trying to move one step closer to the title. At Fort Borst Park in Centralia, the 1A district tournament drew strong attention. The game between Montesano and the winner of Hoquiam vs Columbia-White Salmon kicked off at 2 p.m. The setting was perfect for baseball, and supporters came from different towns to cheer for their teams.
In girls tennis, players gave their all in two important tournaments. The 3A bi-district tournament took place at the Boeing Employees Tennis Center. At the same time, the 2A district tournament happened at Steamboat Island Tennis Club in Olympia. Students competed with great energy and spirit, hoping to reach the next round. Every serve and return counted, as players aimed to win their way toward the state finals.
Meanwhile, the 4A bi-district boys golf tournament was held at Meadow Park Golf Course in Tacoma. The sun was out and the conditions were ideal for golf. Young golfers from across the region showed skill and focus. Each shot on the fairway and green could mean the difference between moving forward or going home. Coaches and spectators watched as the players made careful drives and smooth putts. It was clear that these athletes had trained hard for this moment.
Several individual baseball performances stood out during the day. Cooper Hordyk pitched for 6 strong innings. He allowed 7 hits and 3 runs, though only 2 were earned. He struck out 5 batters and walked 2. His steady effort helped keep his team in the game and showed his value on the mound. On the batting side, Parker Mady drove in a run and also stole a base. Micah Yanos went 1-for-3 at the plate, while Bradley Dinelt scored a key run to add pressure on the other team.
Camas also had a great day, thanks in part to pitcher Sawyer Clifton. He pitched all 7 innings, gave up just 1 hit, and allowed only 1 unearned run. He also struck out 6 batters and walked 2. His strong performance helped his team take control early and maintain it. The Camas batters also had a strong game. Matthew Manjooran went 2-for-3, hitting a double, scoring a run, and bringing in two more with RBIs. Bryce Stevens added to the scoreboard with an RBI. Charlie Barr went 1-for-2, Jared Forner hit 2-for-3, and Cai Davis went 1-for-2, rounding out a balanced team effort.
Another strong pitching display came from Ratteray, who worked through 6 innings. He allowed 8 hits and 4 earned runs but stayed focused. He struck out 3 and walked only 1. His team helped back him up with solid hitting. Sunich and McVey both had solid days at the plate, each going 2-for-3. McVey also hit a double, adding power to the lineup. Low went 1-for-3 and stole two bases, showing speed and quick thinking. Martinez added to the offense with a 1-for-2 game.
As the week continues, these athletes will return to the field, court, and course to try to advance further. With district and bi-district games behind them, the next stage brings even more pressure. But if Tuesday is any sign, the players are ready. They are focused, skilled, and hungry for success.
