David Raya’s superb form shows no sign of slowing after Arsenal equalled a club record of eight consecutive clean sheets, a milestone that has stood since 1903.
The Spanish goalkeeper was rarely tested during Arsenal’s 3–0 Champions League win over Slavia Prague, but remained sharp, consulting goalkeeping coach Iñaki Caña before a late penalty was overturned by VAR. The result secured Arsenal’s 10th straight victory and extended Raya’s personal unbeaten run to nearly 13 hours without conceding.
Raya, who joined from Brentford in 2023, has now kept 50 clean sheets in 110 games for the club, surpassing early-1900s keeper Jimmy Ashcroft. His save success rate of 84.2% leads the Premier League this season.
“You never know when the other team will have a chance,” Raya said. “You have to be alert for 90, 100 minutes every game.”
Manager Mikel Arteta praised his focus and discipline: “David is exceptional in the way he anticipates things.”
Known for his proactive style, Raya has been key to Arsenal’s defensive dominance — acting, as he describes, as both “the first attacker and the last defender.” Arsenal, now the first English top-flight side in over a century to record eight straight wins without conceding, next face Sunderland, aiming to break the long-standing record outright.
