Around 10 Pakistani companies are displaying their gemstones and mineral specimens at the ongoing China Nanjing (International) Mineral, Gemstone & Fossil Expo. The event is held from May 15 to 19 in Nanjing, China, and features over 500 exhibitors from more than 50 countries, according to the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

The expo includes a wide range of minerals, gemstones, fossils, and meteorites. Pakistani exhibitors are presenting emeralds, tourmalines, topaz, morganite, quartz, aquamarine, pyrite, marble, and onyx. These items come from various regions in Pakistan such as Gilgit Baltistan, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Pakistan is known for its significant gemstone reserves, particularly in the northern and northwestern areas. The country offers high-quality stones like peridot, aquamarine, topaz, ruby, and emerald. There are 18 types of gemstones in Pakistan for which 178 major mining licenses have been issued.

The response to the Pakistani display has been very positive, with visitors showing great interest in the country’s natural wealth. Trade relations with China are also expanding beyond gemstones to include industrial minerals.

One Pakistani exhibitor from Fine Nagar Gems and Minerals returned this year with a larger collection compared to last year. The positive feedback from the previous expo has raised optimism about increased sales and orders this year.

Last month, Pakistan hosted an international minerals summit in Islamabad. The event aimed to attract foreign investment in the mining sector and included participation from major international companies like Canada-based Barrick Gold. Officials from countries including the United States, Saudi Arabia, China, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and Azerbaijan also attended.

Islamabad is hopeful that exporting precious gemstones and minerals will contribute to sustainable economic growth. The country is focusing on developing its mining industry and boosting exports to create new trade opportunities.

Pakistan’s participation in the China Nanjing Mineral, Gemstone & Fossil Expo highlights its potential in the global market. Interest from international buyers shows promise for the country’s gemstone exports. Continued efforts to attract investment and strengthen trade ties may help Pakistan build a more robust mining sector and support long-term economic growth.
