India Ready to Remove All Tariffs on US Goods as Trade Deal Nears, Says Trump

India is prepared to remove all tariffs on American goods, US President Donald Trump said recently. He explained that India agreed to cut 100 percent of its tariffs for the United States. This move could lead to a trade deal being announced soon. Trump noted that tariffs made business difficult for US companies, but India is now willing to eliminate them completely.

Despite this positive outlook, Trump said he is not in a hurry to close the deal. He mentioned ongoing talks with many countries, including India and South Korea. More than 150 countries want to make trade agreements with the US, showing strong global interest.

India’s External Affairs Minister stressed that any trade agreement must be fair and benefit both countries. The negotiations are complex and no final decisions have been made yet. India expects a balanced deal that supports the interests of both sides.

The US and India have been discussing ways to resolve long-standing tariff and market access problems. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is in Washington to meet US officials including Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. India is seeking tariff relief on exports such as plastics, leather goods, gems, textiles, and agricultural products.

The US wants India to lower tariffs on products like wine, electric vehicles, petrochemicals, apples, and tree nuts. Both countries aim to reach an agreement that will boost trade and strengthen their economic partnership.

If India removes tariffs as suggested, US exporters could gain better access to India’s large market, benefiting many sectors including agriculture and manufacturing. India remains firm on ensuring the deal protects its own industries.

Experts believe a successful trade agreement would improve economic relations and reduce trade tensions. Talks are continuing, and both countries remain hopeful for a positive result.
