The 27-year-old has scored twice this season and offers a deeper attacking option.
West Ham remain short of strikers after Niclas Füllkrug joined Milan on loan.
Callum Wilson is currently their only senior forward.
The club are also pursuing Adama Traoré and a centre-back.
They are selling winger Luis Guilherme to Sporting as part of squad reshaping.
