Manchester City delivered a dominant performance at the Etihad, sweeping aside Manchester United 3-0 and tightening their grip at the top of the Women’s Super League. Goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp sealed a statement win for Andrée Jeglertz’s side, who now sit four points clear at the summit.
United, meanwhile, slumped to consecutive league defeats for the first time since May 2024, their thin squad looking fatigued after last week’s historic Champions League win over PSG.
Marc Skinner admitted his team gifted City the goals but refused to rule out a title challenge, insisting reinforcements are needed in January. “We gave City those goals. It wasn’t like they dominated us – that’s the scary thing,” he said.
City were sharp and relentless from kickoff, Hemp returning to the starting XI with a standout performance. The hosts ripped through United’s usually solid defence, scoring all three goals within a blistering 21-minute spell in the first half. United offered occasional threats going forward but failed to produce a single shot on target.
Jess Park struck the post for the visitors after the break, but City remained in full control and could have added a fourth through Shaw late on.
With wins over both Arsenal and United already this season, City have built major early momentum in the WSL title race.
