Ruben Amorim accused his Manchester United players of becoming “too comfortable” after letting a winning position slip in a chaotic 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.
United looked set for all three points after Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half strike put them ahead, but goals from Mathys Tel and Richarlison turned the game on its head before Matthijs de Ligt salvaged a point with a dramatic 96th-minute header.
Despite extending their unbeaten run to five games, Amorim was far from satisfied.
“We were comfortable in the game but I think we should do better, be more aggressive,” he said. “We need to feel the environment, the pressure, and understand that the game can change in one play. Today it did, and we have to improve because the match was there to take.”
Amorim also expressed concern over a knee injury to substitute Benjamin Šeško, saying the club will assess the extent of the issue.
Spurs boss Thomas Frank, meanwhile, defended his substitutions after home fans booed the withdrawal of Xavi Simons for Tel, who went on to score the equaliser.
“Sometimes you’re lucky,” Frank said. “But every change is made to try to win the game. Tel did well — great goal, great moment.”
Although Tottenham remain winless at home since mid-August, Frank insisted his side are showing progress:
“We’re close to turning these performances into wins. Today we showed character against a good United side that’s in form.”
