Juventus have dismissed head coach Igor Tudor following a dismal run of eight games without a win across all competitions, the club announced on Monday.
“Juventus FC announces that it has today relieved Igor Tudor of his duties as coach of the men’s first team, along with his staff,” the Serie A side said in a statement, a day after their 1-0 loss to Lazio. Reserve team boss Massimo Brambilla will take temporary charge.
Tudor, who succeeded Thiago Motta in March, was Juventus’s first foreign manager since Didier Deschamps in 2006–07. A former Juve defender himself, he made over 150 appearances for the club and helped them win two Serie A titles and reach a Champions League final.
After guiding Juventus to fourth place and a return to the Champions League last season, Tudor’s side started this campaign strongly with three straight wins. However, they collapsed in recent weeks, drawing five consecutive matches before suffering three straight defeats to Como, Real Madrid, and Lazio.
Following Sunday’s defeat, Tudor admitted: “We prepared well, but something is still missing. There’s no need to dramatise — we’re all responsible for this.”
The dismissal marks the first time since 1969 that Juventus have replaced a manager before November. The club, who have failed to score in four consecutive games, sit eighth in Serie A, six points behind leaders Napoli, and host Udinese next.
